Eketahuna Swimming Club – ‘Improved Facilities for Young Members’
Eketahuna Swimming Club – ‘Improved Facilities for Young Members’
The Eketahuna Swimming Club have applied for the Believe Scholarship of $3000 to help pay for better swimming facility use, training and travel costs from 2010 to May 2011.
In the small town of Eketahuna, the Swimming Club of 27 dedicated members currently does not have the luxury of a regularly available pool for members to use. The community pool managed by the council is the club’s current facility. Unfortunately it has temperature and leaking problems and is not available for the kids until after 6pm due to adults using the pool. The community pool is often very cold due leaks and reliance on solar heating which is not consistent due to weather.
What do they need the funds for?
Their solution is to use the Masterton Indoor pool (some 45kms away) two to four nights per week to maximise the kids’ swimming opportunities. However the travel costs and swimming fees associated will make it difficult for many families to afford. Winning the scholarship would fund these travel costs and swimming fees.
Why should they win the Believe Scholarship?
The Eketahuna Swimming Club believes they should win the scholarship because “the children in this club love swimming and there is not a whole lot more for them to do in Eketahuna. They literally 'live' at the pool everyday. Being at the pools keeps them out of trouble or mischief. Taking on this new adventure will teach them discipline and responsibility. If they take on this opportunity, they will learn perseverance and hard work will accomplish great things. Olympic Swimmers from Eketahuna!”
When asked which ‘Believe statement’ best links to their project they said “We believe in going the extra mile”. The $3000 scholarship would help the Swimming Club members who wish to train for the intention of competitive swimming, which is not possible at the moment. And it would cover the cost of petrol to get these children there.
Vote for Eketahuna Swimming Club now if you think they should win the Believe Scholarship!
Voting closes on September 10th 2010 at 5pm.
