The New Zealand Optimist Team – “Optimist World Championships 2010”
The New Zealand Optimist Team – “Optimist World Championships 2010”
A team of 5 young, dedicated sailors have all worked extremely hard to become the Top 5 optimist dinghy sailors in New Zealand for 2010, and because of this they will be the team who represent New Zealand at the Optimist World Championships – Langkawi, Malaysia in December 2010.
They need the Toyota Believe Scholarship to help fund their campaign. The 5 sailors will compete in both the individual regatta and the teams racing. With many expenses to raise funds for, including entry fees, boat charters, flights, and coaching before and at the regatta, the $3000 scholarship will help them get there!
Members of the team are...
Jayvee Buchanan CHRISTCHURCH
Olivia MacKay NAPIER
Taylor Burn PICTON
Markus Somerville AUCKLAND
William Linkhorn AUCKLAND
In their application for the Believe Scholarship, the team said:
“We believe that if you can dream it you can do it. Many of New Zealand's Olympic and top professional sailors began their sailing careers in Optimists. We each have our own goals and aspirations for our sailing careers and the chance to represent New Zealand is a stepping stone for each of our goals. Every one of us had the dream to represent our country at the NZ Optimist Worlds, and now the dream is a reality.”
As a team, they will represent New Zealand with pride and perform to their best abilities, represent their respective sailing clubs and inspire other optimist sailors to reach their goals. They also hope to inspire schools and communities by showing that if you really work hard you can achieve great things!
If you think the NZ Optimist Team (Jayvee, Olivia, Taylor, Markus and William) should win the $3000 Believe Scholarship vote for them now!
Voting closes on September 10th 2010 at 5pm.
